Practical support that strengthened participation

All Saints Caring Association strengthened community participation by improving its capacity to provide welcoming, inclusive activity for local people across age groups. The case study described the organisation as delivering a wide range of services in the Waterside area of Londonderry, supporting residents from pre‑school age through to 75+. It stated that between 800 and 1,000 local people benefited from its community hall facilities, training and recreational activities that would otherwise be unaffordable for many.

The Society’s support was described as a £1,000 grant towards the purchase of a Bain Marie and hot cupboard. The case study explained the difference made by this practical investment: it strengthened the organisation’s ability to provide hot food to users of its centre, manage outside catering for summer events, and take programmes out to other venues where there was demonstrated need.

The impact story was grounded in the importance of everyday participation. The case study made a clear point that hospitality in community settings was not incidental: food could be a gateway to participation, helping people feel welcome, reducing isolation and enabling engagement across age groups. In that sense, the grant supported more than equipment — it supported the conditions for people to take part and feel included.

As an impact story, this example showed how modest, practical support strengthened a community anchor organisation’s capacity to keep serving local people with dignity. The difference made was expressed as increased ability to host and sustain activity that brought people together — reinforcing connection and participation in community life over time, without claiming outcomes beyond those described in the case study itself.
