Connor McGillen, Coleraine

A championship oarsman with Bann Rowing Club, Connor has been accepted to study an Extended Diploma in Sport and Exercise Science – following a two year elite rowing programme at City of Oxford College, with a place at Oxford Brookes afterwards.  The program is designed for top athletes who wish to represent their country at Olympic level.  But, only 16, Conor doesn’t qualify for a student loan or grant and sought assistance with the cost of accommodation, travel, etc.  The Committee considered this to be a great scholarship opportunity and approved an individual grant.  However, being limited to £250, the Secretary will continue to try and find additional sources of more substantial sponsorship for this talented young man.
