This newly established church group provides informal education, fun and games for primary school children with additional/special needs (often excluded from mainstream activities) – nurturing their social skills, together with respite for their parents and/or guardians – in an effort to reduce isolation. The Chairman (a Parish Nurse with a background in child health, specialising in autism and behavioural issues) sought financial assistance with the purchase of start-up sensory toys. Agreeing that providing support for special needs is very worthwhile, the group’s modest shopping list was fulfilled with a Drapers’ Company grant of £518.
