Glendermott Cricket Club, Derry

Based in the Waterside of Londonderry  an area of high unemployment and social deprivation, Glendermott Cricket Club runs three senior teams (playing in the NW Cricket Union); coaches three underage teams (for boys and girls: U-11s, U-13s and U-15s); and is currently pushing hard to get a team together and enter into the ladies’ league.  Conscious of the inability to share equipment in the current climate, coupled with families that can’t afford to buy their own kit, the Club applied for £675 to help with the purchase of bats, leg guards, gloves, junior cricket balls and training tops so that more youngsters can participate.  Cllr Guy spoke of the effect of Covid on the Club’s finances and acknowledged the modest amount requested.  With this in mind, the Committee agreed a grant of £675 to meet the cost of items listed in the application.
