Sion Mills Cricket Club

Founded in 1864, Sion Mills Cricket Club’s future was in doubt following an arson attack in 2019 which completely gutted the equipment store and destroyed around £12,000 worth of playing and ground keeping machinery.  Members are determined to ensure the Club’s 156 year old tradition continues so that younger generations can enjoy the same heritage, culture and sporting development that so many have in the past.  And an application was made for a contribution to the purchase of a new cylinder lawnmower.  Councillor Boyle confirmed this long established club was not just a cricket club but a community which welcomed everyone no matter their background – and aimed to put Sion on the map.  She added the Club had experienced some very difficult times and would most definitely reap the benefits of any financial assistance.  On her recommendation, a grant of £1,000 was approved.
