St Colmcilles’s Primary School Parents Teacher & Friends Association, Downpatrick

St Colmcille’s PTFA believe many children are academically worse off as a result of the current pandemic – in particular literacy skills, which have stagnated or worsened due to home learning and not receiving the extra encouragement to read from staff/volunteers as they would normally expect .  St Colmcille’s PS does not have its own library so, with a view to establishing an after-school reading club through the addition of portable libraries, the PTFA aimed to create an environment where children can thrive in their learning and development.  They sought funding towards three outdoor portable libraries which will enable the School to provide a hub of resources to enhance current activities – including outreach to children who are not in attendance within a school setting, and increase capacity to offer support and guidance to the local community.  The Committee supported a grant of £1,060 from The Clothworkers’ NI Fund.
