The North West’s leading Irish language, arts and cultural organisation sought funding towards room hire, facilitation costs and office equipment for a multi-cultural Harvest celebration event – open to the Irish-speaking community; both Protestant and Catholic churches; Pagans; and Chinese / Indian / Polish / Syrian / Ukrainian communities. Councillor Yvonne Boyle was familiar with An Gaeláras – she recalled they had helped with the provision of a mini-bus to take a group of Syrian refugees from the North West to Corrymeela, a residential peace and reconciliation centre on the north coast. She was, therefore, wholly supportive of the application and the Committee agreed to award an Irish Society grant of £1,158 to meet the full costs listed.
