Ballougry Primary School, Derry

A unique application was received from Ballougry Primary School, seeking financial assistance to purchase language conversion resources (Accelerated Reader and Mathematics applications with options for translating Russian to English) to help Ukrainian children who have recently joined the school in their classroom studies.  Cllr Sandra Duffy (Mayor of Derry City & Strabane District Council) confirmed there had been an increase in Ukranian families in recent weeks/months, and many young children had been placed at Ballougry PS.  She advised the Committee of the group Foyle Friends of Ukraine hosting a welcome day in the near future.  The Mayor welcomed any funding that helped the educational advancement and inclusion of refugees, and the Committee agreed to award an Irish Society grant of £1,000 to meet costs associated with the program.
