A self-funded voluntary club reaching out to those with physical disabilities, Causeway Giants offer a lifeline of inclusivity to getting into competitive sport; for like-minded people to compare situations and experiences; and an introduction to new challenges. Working across Larne, Ballymena, Ballymoney to Coleraine, Portstewart and Portrush, the Club sought funding towards specialist sporting equipment as membership grows. Having met members of the Club recently (one of his final engagements as Mayor), and acknowledging their inspirational work , Cllr Callaghan was particularly supportive of the application. Recognising the additional cost associated with specialised kit, the Committee agreed a grant of £1,000 towards floor and adjustable nets and other items listed in their application. Patricia O’Brien (Funding Unit Manager at Causeway Coast & Glens Borough Council) also suggested signposting the Giants to a Causeway Council Sports Award Fund grant that might be available to them.
