Conflict Textiles Trust, Derry

Having recently received a donation of 16 Chilean arpilleras (appliqued picture textiles, handsewn from scraps of material), the Conflict Textiles Trust wishes to house this group as a distinct collection within the larger archive.  But, in order to preserve the textiles, some restoration is required.  And so the Trust applied for funding towards the project, including making an analysis and condition report; identifying and carrying out any repairs; and sourcing specialist materials to create display panels.  The Mayor of Causeway Coast & Glens Borough Council had met the organisation at a previous exhibition in Flowerfield, Portstewart, and on his recommendation the Committee agreed an Irish Society grant of £1,000 to cover some of the proposed costs.  Learn more about the story behind Conflict Textiles and see examples of textiles from the collection on the Trust’s website – About (ulster.ac.uk).
