D H Christie Memorial Primary School, Coleraine

Having presented D H Christie Memorial Primary School with iron gates when it first opened in 1971, the Irish Society learned that they are no longer in a fit state; pose a risk; and urgently need replacing.  But the School was unable to justify the expense in the current economic climate and sought the Society’s assistance.  Cllr George Duddy advised that he had seen the gates and confirmed they were in a state.  So, learning that the replacements would include the Irish Society’s crest (as did the original gates), the Committee agreed with the suggestion of awarding £2,500 to meet 50% of the amount estimated for the project.
