Ebrington Primary and Nursery School, Derry

Following their move to a new site in 2017 Ebrington Primary & Nursery School created a Platinum Jubilee Woodland area which has provide a valuable resource to teach about sustainability and ecology.  The space has also proven to be essential for many pupils who have sensory needs or behavioural challenges.  To compliment the tree received through The Queen’s Green Canopy (and to sit alongside the NI 100 commemorative bench they successfully applied for from the Irish Society last year), the School sought funding towards the purchase of a commemorative bench for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.  The Secretary confirmed that the Centenary bench had been awarded through a separate scheme, so the School was still eligible for support from the LAC fund.  He also drew the Committee’s attention to the School’s history and more recent relocation to the new building, which he believed would benefit from some enhancement.  Cllr Drew Thompson confirmed it was a good school that worked with all types of children; Cllr Sandra Duffy was also happy to add her support; and Cllr George Duddy was an ‘old boy’ – having attended school at their previous location many years ago.  So there was unanimous agreement to award a grant of £930.
