Foyle Deaf Association, Derry

Established in 2009, Foyle Deaf Association offers a wide range of services / opportunities, activities and classes to bring members together, reduce social isolation and improve skills and confidence.  This includes their sign language choir; women’s group and youth club, drop-in centre, advocacy services and teaching ISL and BSL to cohorts of both d/Deaf and hearing students.  With so much ‘footfall’ coming through their door, the FDA sought funding for the installation of a video intercom at their new premises.  Acknowledging that a video intercom with flashing lights was vital for staff, volunteers and members to be made aware of someone at the door (a buzzer clearly not being effective), the Committee awarded an HIS grant of £1,100 to cover the full cost of the unit quoted in the application.
