A pioneering arts charity established in Derry in 2014, Foyle Obon introduces people living in the Northwest to the Japanese art of Taiko drumming. They now have four groups meeting weekly and applied for funding towards 15 pairs of specialise Bachi (drumsticks) for their youth group. The Committee noted that there are very few suppliers and Foyle Oban only had one quote from a trusted source in America, which included delivery costs. And so an Irish Society grant of £579 (as requested in the application) was awarded to assist with the purchase.
