Catering for 178 pupils with severe learning difficulties, Kilronan School is a place for young people from nursery age up to 18 years to Learn, Grow and Achieve Together. Friends of Kilronan has been set up by parents and teachers as a means of organising activities for the pupils and families of those who attend, and they made an application for funding towards sensory equipment in response to growing needs and to help pupils enjoy their school day. Councillor Brown knows the work of the School and strongly supported this application. The Committee therefore had no hesitation in agreeing a grant of £1,000 obo The Drapers’ Company to cover the cost of purchasing of a therapeutic body roller, squeeze roller and sensory spinning board.
Emma McCullagh, Secretary of FoK, wrote in June to say “Thanks so much for this grant which was used for everyday use sensory equipment for pupils of Kilronan Special School. It will update the items for each classroom which are essential for the regulation and sensory calming of the pupils. It is much appreciated and will make a big difference to their lives in the classroom on a daily basis, helping them fulfil their potentials at school”. The accompanying list of items purchased included anti-burst balls; recordable talking tiles; wiggle feet; rocking boards; squidgy sparkle number tiles; therapy putty; fidget toys; and star projection cubes.
