Relatively newly established to address low breast-feeding rates, and developed through voluntary efforts, ibreastfeed facilitates a parent-led project called North West BAPS – a Network of some 35 organisations and parents who collaborate to ensure that families can access support if they need it. With signposting pages on Facebook and Instagram, the group planned to install a mural in the City of Derry to help increase visibility of breast-feeding. Mayor Patricia Logue was fully supportive of the application and, learning that a similar mural in Greenock Scotland increased breast-feeding rates by 5%, the Committee agreed an Irish Society grant of £900 to facilitate a series of six workshops and purchase materials for the installation.
