Katie Boggs, Eglinton

Fourteen year old Katie is a member of North Derry Branch of the Pony Club who has progressed through the ranks and been selected to represent NI as a member of the Pony Club Mounted Games Team and compete in the DAKS International Mounted Games Championship in May – against teams for Scotland, England, Wales and Republic of Ireland.  But travel costs and clothing for the competition are somewhat prohibitive for the family.  Recognising Katie’s enthusiasm and commitment, the Committee agreed with the Governor to award an individual grant to £500 (usually £250) to help with costs associated with attending the Championship.  We received an e-mail obo Katie after the event which thanked “…The Honourable The Irish Society for the Grant for Katie.  She had a fantastic week at the Royal Windsor Horse Show and has made memories to last a lifetime.  She got to meet a very famous dressage rider that she idolises, as well as making many new friendships along the way.  On the final day they were awarded their prizes by Prince Edward, Duke of Edinburgh, and Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh, so all very special” and included some photographs.
