Londonderry YMCA

Situated within Drumahoe village, Londonderry YMCA is a full time Voluntary Youth and Community organisation that has been serving the local area since 1856.  And is part of the National European and Worldwide YMCA movement.  With a vision to create a platform for young people to voice their own ideas and attitudes, and support them in making positive life choices, the YMCA is strong on recruiting the right people to assist in the process.  And they sought funding towards staff training and development to ensure that all members of any panel have had formal selection and recruitment training.  In addition, the Association had sourced a second-hand pool table from Lisneal College (where Trustees had visited the previous day to present a grant of £6,000) and hoped the Irish Society might cover the cost of this too.  Alderman Darren Guy was happy to support the YMCA and the wide range of very good youth programmes they deliver.  The Committee therefore agreed to offer a grant of £874 to cover the cost of 12 half-day training sessions for staff and board members plus purchase of the pool table.
