Having set up the Loreto Harp Orchestra two years ago, Loreto College wanted to offer the opportunity to play to all pupils – not just those who have their own instrument and a parent to transport it to/from school. As a result, they applied for financial support to purchase an Irish harp that will remain in school for all pupils to use. The Committee readily agreed an Irish Society grant of £1,960 to cover the cost of a Turmennan student harp and case as quoted in the application.
The College contacted us in May 2024 to say that “The Loreto Harp Orchestra were delighted to be able to purchase an Irish harp which was handmade by Brian Waugh from Turmeenan Harps . Duane Farrell, Secretary and CEO of The Honourable The Irish Society visited the school and presented the harp to Sinéad Close – a Year 13 pupil who is the director of the orchestra. He was very happy to see that the harp has gone to such a good home and was assured that it will be put to good use by our harp players for many years to come. We are extremely grateful to Duane and The Honourable The Irish Society for such a generous contribution to our school community”.
