Founded in 2015, North Belfast Youth Choir is a trail-blazing, inter-denominational choir bringing together approx. 100 young people aged between 11 and 18 from a ‘patchwork’ of communities which [historically] have conflicting cultural and religious traditions and would not normally associate with each other. As part of this year’s programme of development (to establish new long-term friendships, grow in confidence and motivation and experience wider opportunities), the Choir is performing at City of Derry International Choral Festival and sought funding towards associated expenses including transport – to bring young people from across divided communities together for rehearsals and to/from Derry, and subsistence for choir members during the course of the festival. A maximum grant of £2,000 from the Clothworkers’ NI Fund was approved.
