Sixtowns Cross Community Group, Draperstown

Founded in 2001 to encourage cross community relations and facilitate activities for all age groups and denominations, Sixtowns Cross Community Group run weekly bowls sessions and dance classes, and hold coffee mornings, workshops, dances and a variety of other ad hoc activities on a regular basis.  The Group planned to install football goalposts within the large sports hall at the Community Centre – hoping to invite friends and neighbours for 5-a-side matches and encourage bookings from football academies to train in the hall.  Councillor McGuigan was familiar with the group and the excellent cross-community work they facilitate and, on his recommendation, the Committee agreed a grant of £1,742 on behalf of The Drapers’ Company to cover the purchase of the goalposts; shipping; wall anchors and storage brackets (as costed in the application).
