Seven students studying traineeships at North West Regional College (NWRC) have each been presented with a scholarship worth £1,000 by The Honourable the Irish Society.
The students, from NWRC’s Springtown and Greystone campus, are the third cohort to receive the scholarships, which offer financial support to students during their training.
This week the Irish Society’s Chief Executive Officer Duane Farrell visited the college’s campuses to meet the students and present them with their scholarships.
He said: “We are delighted to be able to provide this support to students across the North West. These scholarships are part the Irish Society’s long-standing commitment to education, particularly by supporting students financially when they are training for skills that will help them in their future careers.
“Well done to all of the students who received a scholarship, the standard of applications this year was very high, and I look to forward to seeing what the future has in store for you all. “
John Cartin Head of Faculty for Engineering, Construction & Renewables at NWRC added: “On behalf of the college I would like to thank the Irish Society for supporting our students for a third year with the £1,000 scholarships.
“This year we had a record number of applications and I congratulate all of our trainees who put themselves forward. Successful students have demonstrated an excellent attendance rate on their traineeship programme of study, as well as on and off-the-job training.”
The Irish Society scholarships, each worth £1,000, are open to students enrolled at the college’s campuses on a Level 2 traineeship in: Brickwork, Carpentry and Joinery, Painting and Decorating, Engineering (Fabrication and Welding), Motor Vehicle Maintenance and Repair, Motor Light Vehicle Body Repair and Wall and Floor Tiling.
This year’s recipients are: Jake Collins, Carpentry & Joinery, Jack Jones, Fabrication & Welding, Mark Hanson, Wall & Floor Tiling, Keisha Shiels, Light Vehicle Body Repair, Reece Clark, Brickwork, Caragh Duffy, Fabrication & Welding, and Dominika Mroz, Motor Vehicle.
Traineeships give students the opportunity to gain valuable work experience in a sector you are interested in, it can help students progress to a full-time job, apprenticeship or further education.
