In an effort to provide free after-school activities for children within their community; encourage recreational use amongst youngsters who have found it difficult to re-engage in sports or physical activity again post-Covid; and to bring about improved health and well-being, St John’s Primary School Parents’ Association sought funding towards sports equipment for extra-curricular activities not currently funded by the Government. Cllr George Duddy believed St John’s works closely with another school in the area – also known for its social deprivation, and welcomed any support for social sports sessions and other activities across the community. With this in mind, the Committee agreed a grant of £1,040 to cover the items costed in the application (wheel away basket/netball posts and nets; locking [portable] goal posts; footballs; basketballs; netballs; and marker cones).
