St Malachy’s Parents’ Association, Coleraine

Set up to support St Malachy’s Primary School, the PTA usually organise fun activities for the pupils and their families and run various fund-raising events to enable the School to purchase additional resources for the benefit of all pupils.  With such activities limited by restrictions imposed due to Covid, the PTA fell short of funds required to purchase guided reading books to support teaching of literacy.  And, as books currently cannot be shared (or passed from pupil to pupil without a period of quarantine), there was a more pressing need for additional books to ensure that there is sufficient availability in the classroom and allow for their rotation – hence the application to help purchase as many books as possible to supplement the current reading materials in school.  Cllr Boyle encouraged grant aid to develop children’s literacy, and a grant of £1,000 was awarded.
